Fixing Buffering

Buffering almost always comes down to the connection inside your home, not the service itself. Try these six quick fixes in order.

1. Restart everything once

Turn off your streaming device and router for 30 seconds, then switch them back on. It clears most temporary hiccups.

2. Get closer to the router

Walls and floors weaken Wi-Fi. Move the router or device closer, or switch to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band if your router has one.

3. Use a cable when you can

An ethernet cable, or an ethernet adapter for your streaming stick, gives the steadiest connection of all.

4. Pause the big downloads

Game updates, cloud backups and other streams compete for speed. Pause them while you watch.

5. Drop to HD for a moment

If 4K keeps pausing, switch the stream to HD. It needs about a quarter of the speed.

6. Update and clear the app

Install any app updates and clear the app’s cache from your device settings, then sign in again.
