Watching IPTV on Chromecast is easy as long as you have the right model. The Chromecast with Google TV, the one with its own remote, runs apps from Google Play just like a full Android TV box. Google’s newer Google TV Streamer does the same with more power and a network port.
Older Chromecasts without a remote can only receive a cast from your phone. They work in a pinch, but this guide focuses on the two models that run apps on their own.
The same steps work on the Google TV Streamer.
The Chromecast with Google TV (HD) works well on smaller or older TVs, but it has the least memory and only 8 GB of storage, so keep it tidy. The 4K model adds 4K, HDR and a bit more memory. The Google TV Streamer is the strongest of the three, with 4 GB of memory, 32 GB of storage and a built-in network port.
Google has stopped making the Chromecast line, but existing devices keep getting app updates and still work very well. If you are buying new, the Streamer is the one to get.
Storage space is the thing that trips most people up on these devices:
Uninstall unused apps and clear the cache of the ones you keep. The HD model fills up fastest.
Hold Back and Home together for a few seconds to re-pair it, or use the Google TV app on your phone as a remote.
Check your speed in the Wi-Fi settings and move the router closer if you can. Our bandwidth calculator shows how much your home needs.
